Under general supervision, participate in a team that provides comprehensive infrastructure support services in a complex, 24x7, mission-critical, enterprise environment. The Network Engineer is responsible for building, configuring, securing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Community Transit’s WAN/LAN network and all associated network hardware and software including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers. The Network Engineer ensures the availability, stability, and integrity of all agency data, voice, and video traffic; plans for and accommodates growth and changes in the nature of that traffic based on business needs; and proactively responds to cybersecurity threats to help ensure the integrity of systems and services to internal and external customers. Community Transit’s network includes wired and wireless, on-premise and cloud, and land-based and mobile elements distributed across multiple physical locations, which the Network Engineer is responsible for managing. The Network Engineer works closely with (1) the Technology Infrastructure Services Manager on the purchase of components and the measurement of the network’s key performance indicators, (2) with the Infrastructure Architect on the architecture of the network, (3) with other engineers and junior staff on delivering comprehensive infrastructure services, (4) and with other IT staff to support the agency.
